- Somatic choreography & performance project with Body-Mind Centering®, Contact Improvisation & Authentic Movement
3x3 day performance project with Heike Kuhlmann
This performance project 3x3 is about co-creation. The open as well as complex question: How do people create together, is, besides the decision of the participants to get involved in a common creation and group process for three times three days (weekends), the starting point. The Commonground arises from the promise of the individual to contribute with who they are and the dedication to what the group can create together. To give a commitment to stay for these 3x3 days, even if there are frictions, differences, diversity, a commitment to a hierarchy-sensitive and power-critical space of togetherness (To be in consensus about this, a small collection of texts will be sent with the registration). Commitment is clearly related to a yield, a possible feeling of one's own connection with the ground that supports and allows one to experience oneself. From the I-experience the others can be experienced and allowed to be as they are. From the difference we enter into contact and design.
What does the Co-Creation Perfomance project involve?
For the living ground, the Common Ground, somatic impulses and dance technical inputs are given into it. With improvisation tasks, the seeds given into the ground can begin to grow, shape and blossom in performance.
Somatic impulses are based on the somatic approaches Body-Mind Centering® and Authentic Movement. Contact Improvisation and Release Technique populate the dance technical inputs. Ensemble Thinking, Tuning Scores and elements from the Movement Choir mark the field of the improvisational framework.
The performance develops out of the movement experiences and improvisations emerging co-creation process. Joint creation becomes possible when individuals can get involved, be seen, and contribute ideas. When, after the exchange about design wishes, joint decisions can be made that do not overlook anyone.
The task of Heike Kuhlmann can best be understood in the analogy of the gardener. The gardener prepares the ground at the beginning and sows the seeds; the content inputs and the design of the framework for the project. Heike has the ability to share her knowledge and to initiate and then also to give space for the joint work that she then supports more from the background, the gardener, who then still waters and fertilizes her plants and flowers where it is needed, otherwise gives the flowers the space to flourish as they have decided.

EMERGE Continuing Education // Somatics in Dance, Choreography & Performance
Concept: Heike Kuhlmann & Katja Münker
Lecturers: Andrea Keiz, Heike Kuhlmann, Susanne Martin, Katja Münker & Andrew Wass
Emerge // Somatics in Dance, Choreography & Performance is a 250-hour, modular, in-service specialization in Somatic Pedagogy for use in artistic, creative, performative & educational professions.
The sentient body and the experience/experiencing of oneself in movement and in interaction with the environment are the focus of this dance-choreographic advanced training.
The methods Body-Mind Centering®, Feldenkrais Method and Authentic Movement form the basis for movement trainings and aesthetic research. With improvisation and composition strategies, these experiences are made creatively creative and performative-artistic usable. This enables the development of individual dance abilities in their deep, embodied potential. Connected to the somatic experience, choreographic criteria and tools are taught. The participants are thus accompanied through an artistic development process in which they (further) develop their own present, powerful and subtle penetration of movement as an aesthetic form and conclude with a presentation.
For whom is Emerge recommended?
This continuing education is aimed at educators, therapists, teachers, dancers, dance/theater educators, choreographers and anyone who wants to implement creative action and relaxed, confident performance in their everyday life or profession.
What does Emerge promote?
- Development of somatic-choreographic action through a strengthening of sensory reference in decision-making and in the use of choreographic strategies.
- Unfolding creativity through training in strategies for shaping individual and collaborative creative processes, strategies for overcoming creative blocks.
- Deepening embodiment through body awareness training (being at home in the body), strengthening the body's own resources and sensory reference in movement.
- Performativity by strengthening individual and collective expressiveness, by strengthening sensory references in public performance, in solo and group performances and in application in individual areas of interest.
What does Emerge include?
The Emerge continuing education is modular. It is possible to join at any time. The completion is based on
- participation in 250h compulsory & elective modules,
- participation in 3h somatic & 3h artistic coaching each,
- artistic contributions to the workshop-internal performance shows,
- Documentation of the individual somatic process (max 5 pages) and
- Documentation of the artistic process (max 5 pages) with follow-up discussion
