From relaxation to self-expression and agency
Emotions are deeply embedded in our bodily experience. Yet all too often, they are forced into rigid categories, which constrains their expression and capacity for change.
Daniel Stern's concept of vitality affects opens up a different approach: it allows us to explore emotions through physical sensations and movements, and to let them transform. Through slowing down and an altered sense of temporality, space emerges for relaxation and the release of unnecessary tension. In this way, we can open ourselves to new experiences and give these impulses a dance-like expression.
To this end, we dive into selected body systems of Body-Mind Centering®. The fluidity within us creates the foundation for communication and change – and enables the nervous system to (re-)balance itself. Our bones provide structure and stability, from which we can embark on the exploration of the organs and their qualities. Through the endocrine glands, we can ultimately find our way to energy and authentic expression.
Movement research, bodywork (with touch), and improvisation form the core elements of the workshop. Influences from contemporary dance, contact improvisation, and Authentic Movement are incorporated.
The movement practice is complemented by brief theoretical inputs on anatomy. Finally, writing, painting, and moving offer an integrative space to deepen and let the experiences resonate.
The workshop is open to anyone interested in movement, whether or not they have prior experience, as well as dancers and dance educators.
