- CI Summer Series Intermediate

Gesine Daniels and Heike Kuhlmann, two experienced CI-teachers and somatic practitioners who look back at a long 

history of dancing, researching and teaching together, will take turns in teaching this summer series. 

This course offers you the opportunity to explore the basic principles of contact improvisation (CI) in greater depth, as 

well as encountering new challenges and joys of this dance practice; thereby expanding, developing, and deepening 

your CI vocabulary. 

Topics we will cover include: 

• Orientation and communication through touch 
• Connectedness, permeability, and independence in your own body 
• Becoming physically and mentally present, receptive, and active in every moment 
• Entrusting your own weight to the floor and your partners, and thus falling and landing safely
• Taking your partner's weight in movement, supporting it, and passing it on 
• Becoming familiar with disorientation and feeling more secure in it

Competence, safety, and joy when attending a CI jam

In solo and collaborative research with one or more partners, we will explore the current moment with its physical and creative possibilities and limitations. 

In doing so, we will try out tried-and-tested movement patterns and concepts, as well as cultivate an interest in not knowing, in letting things happen and emerge. 

All participants can practice according to their own level and state of mind, learning with the questions that are currently relevant to them and thus actively experiencing, applying, and increasingly internalizing the principles of CI. 

Continuous practice in a familiar group offers the opportunity to deal more intensively and personally with one's own themes and questions that arise in dance practice and exercise. Confidence in one's own impulses, movement possibilities, and thus also one's own presence increases.

On this basis, dance communication with partners becomes more natural, playful, and personal, and dancing CI becomes even more enjoyable.
